How to Use This Calculator
Measure your roof length and width in feet. If the roof has multiple sections, calculate each separately and add the results together. Select the roll width you plan to purchase. Standard EPDM rolls come in 10, 15, and 20-foot widths.
Pick your waste factor based on your roof's complexity. A simple rectangular roof with no vents or penetrations can get away with 5 to 10 percent. Add vents, skylights, or irregular edges and 15 percent is safer. The calculator also outputs adhesive gallons, seam tape, and lap sealant so you can order everything at once.
How EPDM Material Quantities Are Calculated
Net roof area: Length x Width = roof square footage.
Gross membrane area: Net area x (1 + waste factor). A 600 sq ft roof at 10% waste requires 660 sq ft of membrane.
Roll count: Gross area / (roll width x roll length). Standard rolls are sold in 50-foot and 100-foot lengths. Divide gross area by roll coverage and round up.
Adhesive: One gallon covers approximately 60 square feet of bonded membrane. Divide gross area by 60 and round up.
Seam tape: Linear feet of all horizontal seams. For a 20x30 ft roof with 15-ft rolls, you have one seam running 30 linear feet. Add 6 inches of tape overlap per seam per foot.
Lap sealant: One tube covers approximately 100 linear feet of finished seam edge.
