Understanding the Morse Code Alphabet
Morse code was created in the nineteenth century to send information across long electrical telegraph wires. Because early machines could not send voice patterns they used electrical pulses of specific lengths. A short pulse is called a dot while a long pulse is called a dash. These two simple sounds combine in different sequences to represent every letter of the alphabet and all numbers between zero and nine.

Why is my translated text showing up as unknown hash marks?
If you see unusual hash tags appearing in your decoded results it usually means you entered a special character that does not exist in standard Morse. The original telegraph system only supported basic letters numbers and a handful of extreme essential punctuation marks. Emojis complex grammatical symbols and foreign language accents will not translate cleanly.
Do you need spaces between every single dot and dash?
No you do not place spaces between the dots and dashes of a single letter. You only place spaces between entirely different letters. If you do not include spaces the computer cannot determine where one letter finishes and the next letter starts which will entirely break the translation.
