Consider a 12 ft by 16 ft concrete patio slab using #4 rebar (0.5-inch diameter) spaced on a standard 12-inch grid pattern, keeping a 3-inch clearance from slab edges.

  1. Long Runs (16 ft length): (12 ft width / 1 ft spacing) + 1 = 13 parallel bars
  2. Cross Runs (12 ft width): (16 ft length / 1 ft spacing) + 1 = 17 parallel bars
  3. Total Linear Feet: (13 x 16 ft) + (17 x 12 ft) = 208 + 204 = 412 linear feet
  4. Standard 20ft Stick Count: 412 / 20 = 20.6 sticks (round up to 21 sticks)

Steel rebar weight is standardized by size class. Standard #4 rebar weighs 0.668 pounds per linear foot. Multiply 412 linear feet by 0.668 to get a total steel reinforcement weight of 275.2 pounds.
